New EC

At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IAPS, held on 05th August 2012 at the University of Utrecht a new Executive Committee of IAPS was elected for 2012/13:

President – Bence Ferdinandy
Vice-president – Norbert Bonnici
Secretary – Matthias Zimmermann
Treasurer – Dóra Lakatos
General Members – Andre Dalcher, Ross Donaldson, Anton Dudko, Dražan Jaros and Anatolii Koval

The new EC will be in office starting from September 1st, 2012.

ICPS 2014

The Annual General Meeting decided on where the International Conference of Physics Students 2014 will take place. The bid of NC Germany, the Young German Physical Society (jDPG), was successful! So they will be organizing the conference in two year’s time.

The next ICPS will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 15th August to 22th August 2013.

International Summer School on Crystal Growth and Photovoltaic Materials

The International Summer School on Crystal Growth and Photovoltaic Materials will be held August 27th – September 01st at “Transilvania” University of Brasov in Romania. The deadline for submitting applications is 24th June 2012. Travel grants for students can be provided upon request.

2012 EPS University Student Fellowships

Three University Student Fellowships – of 2,000 euros each – are available from the European Physical Society [EPS] in 2012. The EPS fellowships are given to promising young physics students in recognition of academic excellence. Applicants should be enrolled, at a European institution, in a physics – or related – degree course at the Masters level (second cycle: post-Bachelor, pre-PhD), or equivalent. Third cycle students and previous EPS fellowship recipients are not eligible. Successful applicants will spend a period of at least three months at a university of their choice, in a different European country to where they are enrolled.

The deadline for applications is 15 May 2012.

iaps2desy trip 2012

The International Association of Physics Students is organising a new international trip to DESY, the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron accelerators, photon science particle and astroparticle physics. This will include visits to the Light source DORIS III, Z-ray source PETRA III, Free-electron laser FLASH, X-ray laser European XFEL and HASY Lab.  There will also be talks given by scientists and pHd students currently working on projects at DESY.

The dates of the event are Sunday 10th to Wednesday 13th June 2012.

Registration deadline: 5th of May 2012.

Payment deadline: 9th of May 2012.

ICPS Worldwide Grant
– Grant for physics students from around the world to attend the International Conference of Physics Students –

The International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) invites you to select an academically gifted and deserving student, currently undertaking studies in physics or related disciplines at your faculty and submit an application for the ICPS Worldwide Grant. The student can be given the chance to attend the International Conference of Physics Students (ICPS) held every year in August.

49th Culham Plasma Physics Summer School

16th – 27th July 2012

This school is the 49th in the series organized at Culham Science Centre, near Oxford. No preceding knowledge of plasma physics is assumed. Previous schools have attracted students from more than 50 different countries.

Lectures for the Summer School are drawn from the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and leading laboratories and university groups in magnetic and laser confinement fusion, space and astrophysical plasmas and low temperature plasmas from Britain and abroad.

Sarajevo School of High Energy Physics

9-13 May 2012

Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina

Sarajevo School of High Energy Physics 2012” (SSHEP 2012) will be held at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo from May 9 to May 13, 2012. The School aims at the advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students who are interested in topics pertaining to High Energy Physics (HEP).

The application process for participation at SSHEP 2012 was opened on December 1st, 2011. Application closing date is March 15th, 2012. To apply, it is sufficient to send a short Curriculum Vitae and a Letter of Motivation to any of e-mail addresses listed in CONTACTS. All students who would require support for travel and lodging during the School are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
