Nigeria as a country is populated with two religions (Islam and Christianity). The celebration of Christmas is observed by the Christians, while the Muslims have their own holidays. In my region, the Christmas celebration is fun. People gather at squares with activities including dancing and concerts.
The dancing crew use costumes to cover their faces, and through their dancing, they show appreciation. Usually, this crew goes into visiting people’s homes, which makes the celebration more fun.
Additionally, Christmas festivals are organized where people gather and stay all through Christmas Eve to watch concerts. However, this could change depending on crew interest for that particular year.
Christmas celebration in my region has a new shape – children no longer visit cousins, relatives, uncles and aunties in their respective homes for lunchtime. They prefer watching concerts with their Christmas dress and throwing fireworks for fun. I miss my childhood days in regard to the Christmas celebration.
