Are you interested in contacting with Physics-related organisations, unions, societies and associations or industry-related institutions? Have you wondered how IAPS handles those contacts and establishes collaborations?
Then this is the right Working Group for you!
Since it was founded in 1987, IAPS has established relationships with several organisations that are fundamental to its operation – most notably the European Physical Society (EPS), which assists the Executive Committee with management-related work on finances and legal aspects, and allows IAPS headquarters to be located in EPS headquarters. Participation in the Informal Forum of International Student Organisations (IFISO) and the Young NGO Network have also proven to be vital for IAPS to learn from the experience of other student organisations and to form bonds with them.
IAPS is an Acting Affiliated Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). In addition, in the past year alone, IAPS has signed Memorandum of Understanding agreements with:
- The African School of Fundamental Physics and Applications (ASP)
- The International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA)
- The International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI)
- The International Union of Crystallography (IUCr)
- The International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB).
IAPS is formally connected to a large number of international physics organisations; now it’s time to start making the most of this. Over the next year, this will be one of the major working aspects of the External Relations Working Group, along with establishing collaborations and connections with other organisations that can contribute to creating more opportunities for Physics students. In return, these organisations can benefit from student engagement in their activities, which IAPS can promote.
